Many dogs enjoy chewing, and they’ll appreciate chomping on all sorts of chews, like bully sticks, rawhide, and elk antlers. While chewing is a normal activity that dogs do, there’s always a safety concern, as dogs can end up choking or swallowing large pieces of chew treats.

The Bow Wow Buddy addresses this common issue by promoting safe chewing. It prevents dogs from chewing and swallowing smaller bits of chews. It also helps dogs grip their chews, which reduces the risk of injury.

As an owner of a dog that enjoys chewing on long-lasting treats, I was excited to try out the Bow Wow Buddy with my dog. While it’s always recommended to supervise your dog whenever they chew on a treat, the Bow Wow Buddy helped reassure me of my dog’s safety. So, if your dog enjoys chewing on bully sticks and other dog chews, you must check out Bow Wow Buddy.

Here’s all you need to know about this game-changing safety product.

About Bow Wow Labs

Bow Wow Labs Buddy - buddy and collagen sticks

Bow Wow Labs’ story begins with founder Scott Woolwine’s personal experience. In 2013, one of his dogs accidentally swallowed and started to choke on a bully stick chew. This scare caused Woolwine to research and develop a device that would help dogs chew safely and prevent choking.

Bow Wow Labs was founded in 2016 and is currently based in Austin, Texas. Along with manufacturing the Bow Wow Buddy, the company also produces healthy dog chews and other dog safety and wellness products.

The Bow Wow Buddy is a device that holds bully sticks and other types of dog chews. It’s designed to prevent choking and keep dogs safe as they gnaw on dog chews. It comes in several different sizes, so it’s a great option for any dog that enjoys chewing on treats.

Promotes Safety

The main appeal of Bow Wow Buddy is its ability to promote safer chewing for dogs. It has an adjustable screw that keeps a tight grip on chew treats. It’s also designed to prevent dogs from chewing on smaller pieces that pose as a choking risk.

It enables dogs to chew continuously on their favorite treats until the chew gets reduced to a small piece. Once it gets too small, you can simply replace it with a new chew.

Sizes Available for Dogs of All Sizes

Bow Wow Buddy comes in five different sizes. You’ll be able to find appropriate sizes for most dogs unless your dogs are particularly small or large. Here is the breakdown of the sizes:

X-small: Dogs less than 15 pounds
Small: Dogs between 15–30 pounds
Medium: Dogs between 30–50 pounds
Large: Dogs between 50–75 pounds
X-large: Dogs between 75–100 pounds

Compatible with a Variety of Long-Lasting Chews

Bow Wow Labs makes bully sticks specifically designed to fit with Bow Wow Buddy. However, you can use any kind of long-lasting chew as long as it fits inside the compartment that holds the chew in place. So, you can use the Bow Wow Buddy with rolled-up rawhide, elk antlers, and some bones.

Just keep in mind that it’s not designed to hold flat chews, like pig ears and fish skin, or super thick bones.

Our Experience With Bow Wow Buddy

I tested out Bow Wow Buddy with my own dog Nora. Nora is a medium-sized Cavapoo, and she fell between the small and medium sizes for Bow Wow Buddy. Based on Bow Wow Buddy’s recommendations, I chose the medium-sized Bow Wow Buddy.

Bow Wow Buddy has a very straightforward design, but it does come with a set of instructions to ensure you’re using it properly. I fit one of Bow Wow Labs’ Safe Fit Bully Sticks in the Bow Wow Buddy and made sure it was screwed in place securely before giving it to Nora. Initially, Nora was a little confused about having a device attached to the bully stick. The Bow Wow Buddy we got was slightly large for her, but she still took to it quite naturally and began to grip it while she gnawed away on her tasty treat.

Bow Wow Labs clearly notes that dogs should still be supervised, even when using a Bow Wow Buddy. I still kept an eye on Nora, but it was nice to not have to be so watchful when the chew got down to a smaller piece. She eventually wore down the bully stick to a small piece, and Bow Wow Buddy effectively prevented her from chewing any further. Once this happened, I simply loosened the screw and replaced the old bully stick with a new one.

We had an overall positive experience with Bow Wow Buddy. If I had to be nitpicky, I would say that it doesn’t perform the best when on a smooth hard surface. For example, when Nora tried to use it while laying on our hardwood floors, it would slide around. However, this wasn’t a significant issue because she simply picked it up, went to her dog bed, and resumed chewing away.

Final Thoughts

Bow Wow Buddy is a must-have for dogs that chew on bully sticks and long-lasting chews regularly. It promotes safe chewing and gives dog owners peace of mind while their dogs enjoy a tasty chew treat. Dogs will also have an easier time gripping their chews, which can help prevent injuries.

With the safety benefits and reassurance that Bow Wow Buddy provides, it’s definitely a worthwhile purchase and the perfect safety device for all dogs that love long-lasting chews.
