What is a BARK Bright Dental Kit? How Does It Work?

BARK was founded in 2012, with a mission to bring health and happiness to every aspect of dogs’ lives. Sourced and made exclusively in the United States, BARK strives to make dogs everywhere (and their owners) happy by providing the best products, services, and content. Their popular BarkBox is a monthly subscription service, in which you and your pup can enjoy a uniquely-themed monthly delivery of toys and all-natural treats, chosen specially for your dog.

My 4-year-old fur baby, Coco, and I had the pleasure of trying out the BARK Bright Dental Kit for Dogs. Like the BarkBox, the Bright dental kit is available as a monthly dental kit. It comes with chicken-flavored dental chews, paired with Bright’s proprietary triple-enzyme toothpaste. Together, the uniquely star-shaped chews and toothpaste, along with your dog’s saliva, work to break down problem-causing debris on your dog’s teeth—giving them fresher breath and cleaner teeth over time.

For any pet parents looking to help their dog achieve great oral hygiene, BARK Bright dental kits are worth a try. As Coco was a rescue dog, she, unfortunately, has quite a bit of build-up on her teeth from years of neglect. It’s my mission to help her clean up those chompers—not just for nicer-looking teeth, but also to ensure her optimal health and wellness.

So far, my experience with my BARK Bright dental kit has been positive, although noticeable results will likely show more over time. My one qualm, however, is that the ingredients aren’t all-natural—especially considering Bright’s other treats and chews are made with all-natural ingredients. But, considering these dental sticks are less of a treat and more of a dental kit for oral cleaning, it is understandable that there would be other special ingredients required.

BARK Bright Dental Kit for Dogs Pricing

BARK Bright Dental Kit for Dogs comes available with more-than-reasonable pricing options. As they are available by monthly subscription, you can opt for either a 1-month or 6-month subscription plan.

If choosing the 1-month plan, a bag of 30 dental chews and one tube of triple-enzyme toothpaste will cost $30 for the month. If you’d like something more long-term, the 6-month plan will give you six monthly deliveries of 30 chews and one tube of toothpaste for just $25 a month.

You can also buy BARK Bright products separately (without a subscription) from most pet supply stores, as well as online.

What to Expect from BARK Bright Dental Kit for Dogs

I received my delivery in a shipment box, containing a smaller (cuter) box inside with all the BARK Bright products. The folks at BARK were nice enough to offer us options of different-sized chews for our trial—small and medium. Normally, a one-month supply will contain a bag of 30 dental chews (in small, medium, or large, depending on your dog’s size), along with one tube of their triple-enzyme toothpaste.

If you opt for their 6-month plan, you will receive this same monthly delivery for 6 months. You can have them delivered to your door for as low as $1 a day.

Quality

These dental chews are not only effective (from what I see, so far), Coco is a big fan of the flavor! Paired with Bright’s proprietary triple-enzyme toothpaste, the only dog toothpaste in the market loaded with live and active enzymes, these chews make for an effective dental kit. While the toothpaste breaks down plaque and tartar build-up on your dog’s teeth, the abrasion of the unique star-shaped dental chews works to scrub it off.

Everything from the presentation of Bright’s shipment to the quality of ingredients used is curated with care. This unique, dual-powered dental kit makes this product high-quality in my books. The only reason I gave it a 4-out-of-5 rating is because I wish all ingredients used were all-natural.

Variety

BARK Bright Dental Kits for Dogs comes in three different sizes: small (for dogs under 20 lbs.), medium (for dogs 20-50 lbs.), and large (for dogs over 50 lbs.).

As far as flavor, there is only one choice: chicken. While the chicken-flavored sticks were a hit with Coco, I would love to see more variety of flavors to choose from. Especially as I’m leaning towards ordering more of these once my trial runs out, some variety would be great so that Coco doesn’t get bored with them over time (she gets bored easily!).

Bright’s website does mention new flavors coming soon, so that’s something to look forward to. Until then, the lack of variety is the reason for my 4-star rating.

Ingredients

The dental chews are made with 100% real chicken, with no artificial coloring or flavors added. They also contain no grain, corn, or soy, making them safe for dogs and generally free of allergens. Other ingredients include potato starch, gelatin, pea protein, chicken, vegetable glycerin, lecithin, natural smoke flavor, and citric acid and mixed tocopherols as preservatives.

The toothpaste’s ingredient list consists of water, lactose-free skim milk powder, glycerol, sorbitol, chicken powder, microcrystalline cellulose, alginate, citric acid, enzymes, potassium sorbate (preservative), and carboxymethyl cellulose.

As these dental chews are meant for cleaning and not just snacking, special ingredients are required to ensure their cleaning capabilities, which (I’m assuming) are difficult to make all-natural. Still, as a dog mom, I prioritize giving Coco only all-natural foods and treats, and I personally would have preferred an all-natural product. Hence, my 3-star rating for ingredients.

Is BARK Bright Dental Kit for Dogs a Good Value?

Absolutely, yes. Overall, I am very pleased with this product and, while it’s still early on, I can tell they are making a difference in Coco’s oral hygiene. I’ve seen lots of other dental sticks/chews in the market, but this is the first and only one I’ve seen so far with accompanying toothpaste—especially a triple-enzyme toothpaste.

While I’m no expert, I feel confident that the chews plus the toothpaste are working doubly hard to clean Coco’s teeth. It’s my opinion that you’re getting a ton of bang for your buck with this product, which is why I give it a 5-star rating for its value.

FAQ

What Comes with Each Dental Kit?

The BARK Bright Dental Kit for Dogs comes uniquely paired with a triple-enzyme dog toothpaste. The kit consists of 30 dental chews and one tube (a month’s supply) of Bright’s proprietary triple-enzyme toothpaste.

Why is Dental Care So Important for Dogs?

Bacteria that live in plaque buildup slowly break down your dog’s teeth over time. Because of this, preventative care is important, as this can result in painful (and expensive) tooth extractions, and other health issues down the road.

How Often Should I Brush My Dog’s Teeth?

Brushing your dog’s teeth daily is recommended by most veterinarians. This not only freshens your dog’s breath, but it helps prevent problem-causing debris from building up and causing other health issues later on.

Can Puppies Use this Dental Kit?

Puppies can use this dental kit once their adult teeth grow in, usually at around 6 months. Be sure to consult with your veterinarian to be sure of when they are ready for dental treats. Be sure to also choose the right size dental sticks for your puppy as they grow: small (under 20 lbs.), medium (20–50 lbs. dogs), and large (over 50 lbs.).

Our Experience with BARK Bright Dental Kit for Dogs

Ever since receiving the BARK Bright shipment, it’s been a very positive experience for me and Coco. Everything about the presentation of the package gave me a great first impression. They even included a “How does it work?” insert in the package, educating me about which enzymes are in the toothpaste, what specific function each enzyme has, and how they work together with the dental sticks to get the job done. Definitely a thoughtful touch by the team at BARK.

The dental sticks are available in three different sizes—small, medium, and large—depending on your dog’s size and weight. Coco is a 15-pound Chihuahua-Terrier mix, which made the small-sized sticks the best fit for her. BARK was nice enough to send me both the small and medium dental sticks, so I’ll be breaking the medium sticks in half each time I give her one.

While it’s still early on, I can notice some difference in her breath and teeth already. This gives me hope that the dental sticks and toothpaste are doing what they’re supposed to. With time and consistency of use, I’m hopeful that I’ll notice even more of a difference.

Although the dental kit products aren’t all-natural, I trust that BARK has used only the safest ingredients that are still effective in doing what they do—making me confident to continue giving them to Coco. Plus, the fact that Coco is a huge fan, and instantly perks up whenever getting her daily dental stick, is a big win in my books.

In Conclusion

All in all, I have nothing but great things to say about BARK Bright Dental Kit for Dogs. Everything from the initial presentation of the product shipment to the positive experience of trying them out with Coco, leads me to say this dental kit is a great value.

This product consisting of a unique dual-cleaning combo of dental sticks and a special triple-enzyme toothpaste makes it stand out from any other dental treats I’ve seen. What’s more, this product is more than reasonably priced for all that you’re getting with each kit. The best part is your dog is sure to love it too!

I’m really looking forward to seeing more noticeable improvements in Coco’s dental hygiene over time!
