redwood bowl

LOVE it. i turned to my fellow yelpers for advice when looking for a nice dog-friendly picnic spot. this led me to roberts recreational area. the picnic was fab but we were advised that friendly dogs are only allowed off-leash in undeveloped areas (read : trails and places that have no children). however, the ranger also told us that this is not enforced in the redwood bowl area. we returned a few days later and went directly to redwood bowl. it is such a beautiful spot. daisy loves it there. a few other very friendly dogs & owners, too. such small numbers for such a large space. let's hope it stays like this. a new favorite! pics above.

another favorite place. about half of this park is open to everybody. therefore dogs must be on-leash until they reach a certain area, near the northwest corner of the park. after that, the park opens up a lot. many friendly dogs and their owners here, too. there is a popular socializing/playing/petting area when you first enter the off-leash area. sometimes you see familiar faces and other times you don't. the park itself is hilly and offers lots of grass to snack on ... as well as some really nice views of the city and the bridge. on warm, kinda windy days, there are numerous people flying (and renting i think) kites. very nice. it's kind of tricky getting here ; we've found it best to exit on gilman road / 4th street area, go under the freeway, and head south on the access road (instead of going into the horse racing track). once you get to the next intersection, take a right and then another right, pass by the doubletree and ahead of you, you will see the first part of the park. there is parking all along the road. enjoy! and if you see daisy here, please say hi!

daisy LOVES this place. it's an enormous space with many trails, both defined and undefined. super views of the sea. lots of friendly people & pets here. very large parking lot. this is a really nice place for humans to also get some exercise. favorite walk : down the hill, to the beach and back up (is kinda tough coming back up the sand) by the hanggliders. highly recommend!

when we first moved to oakland from the city, we were worried that we wouldn't be able to find a dr we loved as much as dr gilligan at park animal hospital. rather than go with unknown referral, we used yelp.com to search for appropriate facilities and read about lake veterinary hospital. it's ridiculous how friendly and nice people are here. truly. the front desk staff is always super attentive and we've met with two doctors who are truly lovely : dr alexander and dr dunn. highly recommend this facility!
