Rising Sun, MD 21911 WHERE do Ruff Lifes Adoptable Pets Come From?*
All of our lovely companion animals are from high-kill southern shelters, meaning a shelter that has low public adoption, minimal help from other rescue groups and a euthanization rate of 80% or more. We only pull animals that are on their "last day" or "red-listed" meaning all other means of public adoption and help from other rescue groups has been exhausted and they are scheduled for euthanization.
*How does Ruff Life "choose" the dogs it saves?*
With a very heavy heart, some are denied into our program. We have very strict guidelines that require temperament testing and basic health checks by the shelters prior to Ruff Life committing to pulling the animal from the facility. We can only accept the best of the best personalities with no agressive traits into our rescue, due to limited space in foster homes and lack of volunteers with more intense behavior training experience.
We do not accept local owner relinquishes or animals that have other means of rescue/adoption.
*So HOW does Ruff Life get the pets from the southern shelters to Maryland?*
Awesome volunteers transport animals hundreds of miles to get them into the safety of our program. In order to legally transport across state lines, all shelter animals must have a veterinary exam,vaccines and a health certificate prior to transport. This is where our sponsors step in.
