“Effective January 1 2014 This will become an official Erie County Off-Leash dog park. Thanks to Friends of Ellicott Inc we have made this happen. This park is an island that can only be accessed by 1 bridge so dogs run free there. There is a one half mile loop path that people walk around with their pets following and playing. Now really a designated dog park! Double gates installed, Rules and regulations should be observed so we can keep it this way.”

Great park but beware of broken glass!

This was the first dog park my owners took my brother, Jasper, and I and boy did we have a blast! we loved how much wide open space we had to run and play. We met lots of other friendly dogs and made some new friends. After our owners walked us through the park, Jasper and I headed to the beach to cool off a bit. Not 5 minutes in I felt a sharp pain in my back right foot. I must have stepped on a piece of glass. My owners noticed my pain right away and fetched me from the muddy water. They cleaned me up but I was bleeding a lot. They carried me back to the car, stopping every few feet to wash off the blood that was gushing out. I was rushed to the vet emergency room and had to be sedated to get stitches. I just want all my other dog friends to beware when they play in the water - it is not safe for doggies to play. I hope they can clean it up because I would love to come back here. This park is so wonderful. Sincerely, Luna

Friendly Dogs Only Please

There are few Off-Leash dog parks like this one. If you have a problem dog that does not behave well off leash - please consider whether this is a good place to bring your pet. There are many parks you can walk your dog on a leash. Be considerate of the good dogs that run around free and play well with others right here in this park!

unfortunate social experience

I was delighted today to find a new place to walk my dog rather than just thru my neighborhood, which was getting quite boring. I noticed signs that dogs must be leashed, however saw that many were running free. My dog was happy and met a lot of dogs along the path, leashed and unleashed. Then a pack of 3 dogs came running up. Their owners were close-by thankfully, the dogs walked past us, dogs sniffing each other, then they turned back and came back to investigate my dog further. Next thing I know MY DOG WAS IN A FIGHT!!!!!!!!! It was so fast I hardly knew what happened. I have NEVER seen that in my life, my dog is very friendly and never has fought before. Then again it's not everyday there is a little "pack" off leash that we come into. I saw some posturing for a split second and then the sudden fighting. I don't even know how it started. Thankfully the guy that was there with his wife was able to grab my dogs leash and get it to me. I had dropped it when I saw the crazy fighting ensuing and I was the only one holding a leash. I was ill prepared for a dog fight I admit, but there IS A LEASH LAW THAT IS BEING DISOBEYED. I don't go to dog parks for that very reason, because they are off leash. **SIGH** Sad my 5 year old border collie/labrador retriever mix had a bad social experience....
