Belgian Tervuren History

One of Belgium’s four sheepdog varieties (the Groenendael, the Laekenois, the Tervuren and the Malinois), the Belgian Tervuren was named for the Belgian city of the same name and developed by the breeder Brewer M. Corbeel. A dependable herder and farm dog, the Tervuren is also valued for its versatility as a working dog, police dog and household companion.

The Look of a Belgian Tervuren

The Belgian Tervuren is a light-boned, elegant, square-built dog covered in a long, straight coat that comes in a range of colors from fawn to mahogany. It has a powerful, flat-topped head with a sharp muzzle, black nose and triangle-shaped ears that point straight up. Its dark brown eyes have a keen expression. The Tervuren has a thick neck, level back and a low-hanging tail. Overall, the Belgian Tervuren has a lightweight but powerful look.
