I recently adopted a rescue dog "JAKE" a 85 lb America Staffordshire Terrier .... he is 2 years old. I was told he has never shown signs of aggression and is very scared of people because of his past. It took a while for Jake to warm up to me when we first met because he is very shy... I have had Jake now for 2 weeks and he 100% everything I have read about his breed being Loyal... to Jake I am his person. But Jake has started showing signs of mild aggression as far as anyone walking up to me or even my grand child giving me a hug. This deeply concerns me... I correct his behavior immediately ... but his growling has me blown away because at first I couldn't take Jake on a walk with out him speeding up to get pass people or him even trying to cross to the other side of the road to get away from people.. and now I am seeing a dog who isn't showing as much fear and I think it might be him feeling the need to protect me at all times.. he has taken very well to my husband but not like he is with me... should I limit the time I speed with Jake? I am trying really hard to socialize him.. but maybe I am doing everything wrong?
