Why is m y dog waking me up at night to come look at his bed, and acting like something is there, when there is not?
I have a dog from an animal shelter that is mostly pit bull, although maybe at least part ridgeback. He sleeps on a bed in the laundry room by the kitchen, with a door off the kitchen to the master bedroom that we keep shut. He can get me up at night to go out if he needs to by standing at the door and whining or low growling, just trying to get my attention. Lately, the lst 2-3 weeks he has started not only getting me up to go out, but getting me up, leading me to his bed and staring at it intently, like he is looking for a bug or a mouse, or something in his bed. there is never anything in it. I washed his bedding, tred putting a blanket over it - everything. Nothing works. Lately, I have just fussed at him when I realize he doesn't want to go out, but is instead leading me to his bed, and tell him. Leo, there is nothing wrong with your bed. Go to sleep. Some nights he doesn't do it. Last night, after one time, I ignored him the 2nd. I don't like to do that as he may need to potty.

Pit- Ridgeback mixes are so adorable!!! Anyway- I used to do that too with my first bed. What made me stop was washing the bed and putting my blanket that smelled like me on it all bunched up. I believe that maybe another dog that was in the store at one time or another left a scent on it and it was bothering me. Since you already washed it, try putting things that belong to your dog in the bed when they are not around and try to get their scent on the bed. Make sure that before bed you take the dog out because then you can be sure that they do not need to when they come to wake you up. Odds are there is either an unwanted scent making them feel uncomfortable, or they do not feel like the bed is theirs. If it continues I would suggest getting a new bed and washing it before introducing it to your dog.
