Why do some ignorant people run up to big dogs??!??
Other than my Shiba Inu, we have a giant Great Dane and a few weeks ago we took both of them to our neighborhood boardwalk. This girl comes out of nowhere (about 18 years old or so), squeeling, and grabs our dog by the head, squishing her face. I'm just thinking to myself, how stupid can you be? If it was any other dog I wouldn't be surprised if she had gotten bit. I mean, she didn't know that dog. And I know if I were a dog that would freak the hell out of me. Plus it just seems so rude to come up to someone else's dog like that without asking first.
Sorry, just venting a little =)
But seriously...what is with people???!!!

I totally get what your saying, I watched these kids, a brother and a sister. I walked them down to the park one day. The place was filled with dogs (It was amazing). They saw this White German Shepherd mixx with Golded Retreiever, It looked just like thier old dog Jessy.
The said "OOh look its Jessy" and ran off to that mysterious HUGE dog they didnt even know
I was able to grab the boys hand and the girl kept running, I yelled "STOP" and she turned and fell.
That dog came up to her and started barking in her face and pulling her jacket. The owners werent concerend AT ALL!!! I had to pry that dog off her. Her curiosity got her seriously hert,,
They were 9 and 8

I have no idea. Ignorance of canine behavior and/or disregard for it. I know preteens who are more polite than that.

I have the same poblem with peole who use flexis as a leash. Their dog is 10-15 feet away from them and they are not even paying any attention to the dog. When in petsmart, i see people all the time doing this. It is because people do not care anymore and only think of themselves

That's pretty funny, I'm younger than her and I wouldn't do that. Beautiful dog you have!

thats how dog bites happen. I had a friend... err aquaintance...
I knew someone who had to euth. her lab because a 5 yr old and his MOM were poking at the dog through the gate that said BEWARE OF DOG. The dog got protective because it was being harassed and bit the boy, not hard, supposedly, but it drew blood and AC took Shadow (the lab)

I wonder the same thing.... it's ignorant and rude. If someone did come running up to your dog without asking to pet it and they got bit it would NOT be your fault, it would be their's. I always ask the owner if I can pet a dog before I do, I even do this when the dogs are available for adoption at an adoption event even though that's what they're there for, to be petted and adopted, I still ask to pet before I do. I can't tell you how many people do NOT ask to pet a dog, they just go up and start petting it or come running at the dog. I was walking one of my dogs once in a park and this girl comes up behind my dog and picks him up while he was on a leash. I didn't know what to say, I was outraged that someone would really do that. Believe it or not, I had a police officer pet my dog without asking!
