why do dogs bark?

It's a form of communication. We humans can communicate using speech, but dogs have to reply on certain vocal noises and body language to communicate with other dogs.

They can bark for different reasons. Dogs have long been used an a sort of alarm system to ward off thieves and other bad people by alerting their owners. They may bark out of boredom. My dog sometimes barks at me when he has to be let outside to go potty. There are other reasons, as well.
