when does a chihuahua stop growing?
i'm getting comments that i'm too big for a pure breed chihuahua. my mom does not mind my size now because i'm still small compared to other dog breeds anyway. however, i want to know if i'm still gonna grow? hope to hear a response from you guys! thanks!

Most small breeds are done growing by 18 months.
Chihuahuas are one of the most popular breeds out there. This means there is high demand for puppies, so there are loads of breeders who have no idea what they're doing, and don't care so long as the puppies sell. You get all kinds of weird things going on under those circumstances. One of my coworkers has an AKC registered Chi originally from a pet store. We are almost certain he is actually a Pug/Chi cross. He weighs about 16 lbs and has a coat pattern most commonly seen on German Shepherds - in fact, we call him The Pocket Shepherd.
Mochi would be considered a deer-headed Chi because of the shape of his head. This is actually out of breed standard (it is healthier for the dog tho!), but became very popular after Taco Bell's mid-90s ad campaign featuring a Chi - who was actually not a purebred Chi. Between people breeding just to breed Chis, and people wanting deer-heads that may not really be Chis to begin with... Who knows?

I'm a chi-mix as well... Although I'm pretty sure I'm an applehead! At least my Mom thinks so!
I'm almost 5 now and I stopped growing between 12 and 18 months. I weigh about 11 lbs! I hope this helps you!
you're adorable by the way! :)

Dogs usually get their height by the time they are nine months, but they will continue to fill out up to 18 months. Best of luck to you and your puppy.
