what week of being in "heat" are dogs bleeding?

Pretty much the whole three weeks. It is heavier for the first 8 or 9 days, normally, then gets pinker and lighter in amount.
However, I have had dogs bleed bright red for the entire time and others that left almost no discharge at all.
She is definitely NOT SAFE while bleeding!!! She can get bred at any time, and many males will bred her even if she is resisting. Since sperm can live an average of 7 days inside her, there is really NO safe time to let her out with an intact male.
