what name would go with "Major" for a second puppy?
We are considering buying a 2nd german shepherd puppy for a companion for our 2yr old dog. His name is Major and would like a name that is similar-we're not sure if we will get a male or female

I think the name should fit the dog himself and not the other ones name. Naming your animal is such a personal thing, live with the pup for a bit and one will definitely come to you.

Actually if you want a GOOD companion for your 2 yr old dog you may want to adopt a 1-3 yo dog from a shelter. You would have less training involved and you would have a chance to find a playmate with the same personality and energy level. You can also make sure that they will get along before you get it.
As for the name, i agree with waiting to name it until you see the personality or charactor of the dog.

It is best to pick one that starts with another letter then M.
Try Titan or if it is a girl, something like Tilda.
There is many names out there.
I had a dog named Squeeky. He was nice dog. R.I.P.
You could stay with the military theme - and name another rank, like General or Sarge. Or name the dog after your favorite Major (the characters from MASH come to mind... Pierce, Hawkeye, Winchester, Margaret.) I like the idea of 2 separate names that go together. I know 2 boxers named Tiger and Lilly.
