What is a gotcha day?

I see groups and I get invitations to go to Gotcha day parties, but I'm not sure what it is!

gotcha day is another name for the adoption day you got your dog. some people celebrate this for their dog instead of their birthday because they are not sure when their dog's birthday is

A gotcha day is just the day your your pet was adopted. For example, if you got Mocha on August 26 or whenever, then that would be her Gotcha Date. If she was born when you were there, you would just put the birthday.
