There are not three breeds that produced dachshunds... back in the 18th century in Germany they were produced by breeding a variety of terriers and other breeds to produce the short legged badger hunting dachshunds we recognize today.
Along the way in this development, the three coat lengths were produced. All three coat lengths are from these original beginnings of the breed and no new breed(s) have been introduced since their original development in the late 18th century.
The only difference in the varieties is the type of coat...all three coat types must conform to the same breed standard and the body style and type must be identical within all three coats, however they are shown as three separate varieties of the dachshund breed in most countries.
