We have a jack russell/chihuahua, want to get a lab...
but we're not sure about the mix. Our jack russell is female and she can be a bit of a drama queen [which is clearly our fault] and isn't really around other dogs. But when she sees other dogs she gets excited, and plays around/play snips at them, but also barks for a good 20 minutes. We're just wondering if they seem like a good mix, because we've wanted a lab for a few years and our jack russell [harlee] is almost 2, and we think she needs a playmate, lol.
also, if we DO get the lab, we would obviously want to crate train the dog, but we let harlee run loose, will the lab get jealous/bark the whole time? I feel sort of bad leaving one out and one locked up, but it clearly has to happen.

It might be okay. I recommend getting Harlee obedience training, maybe in a group class so she can get used to responding to commands around other dogs. Prior to interacting with other dogs, take her on a good hour or so long walk.
If you do buy a lab, it would definitely be a better idea to adopt an adult instead of getting a puppy; I think a puppy and Harlee would not be a good mix!
Finally, why not crate train Harlee as well? Old dogs can learn new tricks . . . try it out!
Hope this helps! :)

It's always worth a try! Dogs can read and feel other dog's energy so try out different Labs to see which dog she seems to get along best with. Try a few different male dogs and try and few different female dogs just to see which one she gets along best with since EVERY dog has a different personality, different activity level, different energy, etc.
I would definitely recommend socializing and training her more.

I have had many labs! But no offense, I don't think labs should be in crates! My thought.. Labs don't easily get jealous! They are amazing beutiful loving dogs! I think Harlee and the new lab will be fine together as long as you get the lab as the puppy so it will be around the size of Harlee. Labs are far from aggressive! And they DEFINATELY need room to run around! Like in a yard! They love swimming! And will be your companion FOREVER! :)
