Traveling overseas with fire fox terrier???

My wire hair fox terrier is very typical in terrier temperament. I recently moved over seas and can’t go on with out him near me. I am considering having him fly over here while my parents come to visit for a few months (as in, he won't be flying alone). We can’t stand the idea of leaving him with someone for 3 months, even with our closest friends because we would eat ourselves with worries. He is very healthy however i'm worried that the trip will stress him out- can anything serious happen? How will he be able to take a long flight with 1 transfer in aircraft? the flight will be(chicago- frankfurt- trieste, italy). Anyone have advice or stories? VERY WORRIED AND ANXIOUS!

First, find out if he'll be allowed in the cabin or if he'll have to go in the luggage compartment. If he's not allowed to be with you/your parents, then I'd advise against taking him.

Animals as passengers aren't what airlines specialize in. The luggage cabin temps and air pressures aren't monitored as closely as the cabin and many dogs have died from cold or heat extremes in flight. They often lose animals, too.Simply Google airline safety for pets and you'll see that the luggage cabin isn't safe for animals.

Also, consider what he'll be going through on such a long and complex flight. When will he be able to go potty? Dogs have to go more often and urgently when stressed.

I'm thinking while YOU might want to have him with you, HE might be less stressed staying with family or very trustworthy friends.

Also, he may need special paperwork so you'll need to check into that he isn't confiscated or quarantined on arrival in the EU.

There's a lot to consider.

My understanding is you won't be able to have him right away. Most animals going into a different country have to go through a quarenteen period. (I'm not sure how long that lasts) and even coming back he probably would have to as well. That would definately stress him and you out. I think it's best to leave him with family or friends for him and you.

Second Chanch

I just got a rescue dog from michigan and he was flown in by air cargo. Since they have to use a fork lift to put the dog on the flight, my "Chanch" was very scared of loud noises. The Vet game him a valium type pill. I was glad they did. They also put a non slip rug in the crate so if there was movement he would not slid aroung. They also have an attachment on the crate for H20.
If he moved his month near it water would come out. Using abowl is useless. Hope this helps
