The fur on my dog's hips is WET all the time, and it's not urine. What could this be?

She is a big lab, and leaves spots wherever she lays. The carpet is soaked when she gets up--where her hips have been. I've watched her to see if she might be leaking urine, but it is coming from her HIPS, under her fur!Clear liquid, no odor. I'm hoping to avoid the vet due to $ issues and because it is now the weekend. HELP!

There might be clear puss comming from her hip..But i dont really know what it is...

I would call the vet at least and tell him the whole problem with your dog and tell him you cant afford to pay him money to see him

i would recommend seeing a vet anyhow ASAP!

this could be serious, you never know

Jack

My first thought was that it could be urine that is running down her leg and pooling near the hip somehow, but since you said it's odorless, I'm wondering if it's more like she's biting her hip area when you aren't looking, which is causing it to have quite a bit of clear, odorless saliva in that area.

I know sometimes Jack will bite at an area if he has a flea or something and I can't see him for a few minutes, there can be a wet spot on his bedding or the carpet.

The only other thing I can think of is that she has some kind of injury that is leaking water from the skin, but it's unlikely to be on BOTH sides.

Watch for any telltale biting signs like the fur in that area looks like it's been ruffled up.

If she seems in any pain or it worsens without explanation, I'm afraid I'd take her to the vet if I were you, despite the $ issues. But call first and ask what they think. Sometimes they can give you advice over the phone if they know your dog well.

Good luck!

It sounds to me like she has a moist dermatitis/hot spot in those areas. If you part the fur you should be able to see the raw and red skin. If so, it will most likely need an antibiotic and having the fur shaved off in that area to help it dry out and heal.
