Split Dewclaw - When is it time to see the vet?

At what point should a vertical dewclaw split require mandatory veterinary care?

What's a good method of home first aid care in the meantime?

A split dewclaw can be painful. Did it bleed, did it split to the quick of the nail? If this is the case I would certainly take him to the vet. The vet can deal with it now before a possible infection sets in and causes more problems and pain for Kadan.
If it was a case of a split at the end without bleeding you might be able to get away with trimming the part that has split.
Kadan is a beauty.

Dieta

If you are showing or not still it can be fixed if it is not that bad.
If you aren't showing then just have it removed. It isn't really neccessary.
If you get it removed and do show the dog have the vet give you a written letter with the date, and the pictures of the dew claw before and after.
