She will not let me put on a headcollar
Ok Purchased the Gentle Leader Headcollar. Slipped it on the first time, was not tight enough and she slipped it off now she will not let me put it on a second time I got bit in the finger. I am really frustrated, any suggestions?

Try the techniques in this excellent video by Jean Donaldson. "Conditioning an Emotional Response" half way down this page.

Hold a treat on the other end of the nose loop. When she puts her nose near it, give her the treat through the nose loop. Keep doing that, and eventually start slipping it over her nose and giving her the treat. That's what I did with Bella. It takes a while to get them used to it. It took Bella almost 2 weeks to wear the head collar without spazzing out.

try the treat thing, use meat like a piece of hot dog ect.... but only let her nibble at it as you gentle slide on the head collar once on, give her the rest if she has accepted the head collar. Then, praise one time. Get someone to hold another treat in their fingers and take the collar back off again. This time you are just putting it on.
Then try again the same way later on in the day til you can place the collar on and off.
Take her for a walk the normal collar way til you can desensitize the dog to the head collar. It may take some time for her to trust someone reaching over her head and placing the head collar on.
If she is head sensitive you may work with her without constraints. Just pet her once and then feed.
If she is a new dog for you, you may have to wait til her relationship with you is stronger.
She may remember a time when the shelter used the pole catcher on her and she is responding to her last memory of fear as you are trying to place something over her head

I agree with everyone. each time I tried a new devise, I started out by leaving laying on the floor where he would pass by it often, placing a treat a few feet away from it. When he took the treat, the next treat would be even closer, until eventually he was taking the treat while placed on the collar. Then I would do as the others said, holding treat in my hand and placing over his snout. Its always worked for all the type collars Ive tried quite fast BUT, he hated the GL and I gave up on it.
