Scabby-flaky patches, bald spot on back of left ear and blackish colouring, any clue?

The patches are scabby and they flake off if you pick at them. The inside of her ear looks like it's turning a blackish colour. There is a bald spot on the back of her ear. She doesn't scratch at the ear much. I have noticed a little bit of sensitivity to the ear (ie if you pull or yank on it when playing around, she'll yelp.) But not much sensitivity to it.

We have not seen a vet. It's pretty costly around our area. Hoping to find a simple cure or remedy. Will see vet if it starts to worsen. Noticed the scabby patches about 5 months ago (give or take some time), has not progressed much.

I don't feel the ear looks too bad. I would agree the outside part may be from scratching and ripping out the fur with his toenails. A fantastic ear cleaner to use is PETfection Ear Cleaner Spray. It is 100% Organic and Non-Toxic and will get rid of all the junk in his ears, reduce inflammation and itchiness, and help prevent the infection from coming back. You can use it on the outside of the ear as well. It is designed to kill of yeast and mites so if you do have an infestation, this should help. You can check it out at www.mypetfection.com. Good luck!

I would take her to the vet anyway. It could be mange, which can be very serious, and highly contagious.

mange is one possibility there is 2 forms of mites. Vet can do a scrap to test to see which one or if that is it . There is many types of dermatitiuses too. The vet can determine that also.

It sounds like he's been dealing with a pretty chronic ear infection, however, that inner ear looks pretty good. He may still have an issue deep within the ear, however. The missing hair is most likely from him scratching at the ear, and the black pigmentation is a normal reaction to a chronic skin issue. I would get that ear checked again...
