Renal Disease
I have renal disease (diagnosed a week ago) and have a hard time finding something good I want to to eat. MOM has tried everything and so far I only want soy protein and maybe some rice. At least I'm eating something for now. We need to find something to eat all the time.
I'm to have a low phosphorous diet and it's so hard! Any ideas? Everything that is Rx tastes like cardboard but I want to try and get well.
Also, has anyone had luck with homeopathic remedies? MOM just ordered two remedies; one to detox me and another to increase appetite and renal output. The vet (not a homeopath) ordered Pepsid AC and Tramaol for me...we are trying them. They have helped some. It's a good thing I always drank lots of water and still do.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thankies!

I cannot give you any suggestions for the food as I'm not familiar with renal disease with doggies - however Tramadol will make the dog reaaaaaally out of it! My old Akita was on that, and she could barely walk sometimes because of how it affected her and was SUPER picky with her food. We ended up feeding her human food - even resorting to buying a baked chicken from Fry's and piecing it up for her just so she would get some protein! Just keep trying different options, and hopefully you'll stumble on something yummy!!! Get feeling better soon :)

I think some of the side effects of Tramadol, is loss of appetite.
So that might be why.
I can't think of any low phosphorous diets you might want to ask this on rawfeedingforcatsanddogs.com
ask if anyone feeds raw to dogs with this.
And other then that my trainer friend he uses a kidney diet but the dog still couldn't maintain muscle weight but his dog was 15yrs old. Which is common in older dogs.
If she likes rice see if you can find Innova puppy large breed in a can it has carrots, potato, rice and beef. Comes in a red label can with a german shepherd on it and you could add in wellness fish in a can too. but check the labels.
I will write to you if I see anything online about foods to feed with that medical issue. good luck! :)

Try coconut milk and milk thistle. There is a book full of homeopathic recipes for pets called The encylcopedia of natural pet care by CJ Pur? We can't read. anyhow Mommy has raised both of us on it since we were pups. My adopted mom Bel had liver cancer and survived to live 3 years later with natural remedies. Good luck to you.
