My first thought is...have you recently changed any kind of floor cleaner you may have been using or is there any reason there could be something on the floor that he's actually licking up off the floor?
Hopefully not, but it's a good idea to think about anything that may have changed in your housekeeping routine around the time he started this.
Other than that, he may have literally just licked the floor one day out of the blue and decided he liked it. Honestly, this happens. We used to have a dog who used to run along the wood floor with his tongue stuck straight out licking as he went along. Actually, it was more of one long lick while running. LOL
But with him, there was no reason. He just did it one day and decided he loved it and then it was a life-long habit.

licking can also be a disorder when dogs become obsessive over the feel of licking fabric or other floors. It is a stress reliever and it can make them feel good
It is not exactly known why each dog does it but you can do things to prevent him doing it less that would be walking, games, hobby like fetching ect...., also just not allowing him to do it for hours on end. Break up his thinking and habits with new and more positive things. good luck.
