Our 6 month old chihuahua male..He hasn't peed all day. Is he sick?

We just brought home our 6 month old chihuahua papi last night. He's extrememly shy and spends most of his time hiding. His previous home was in texas with his breeder...and his new home is in Snow covered chicago. He refuses to go outside.

Along with his refusal to eat. he'll drink a little bit of water if you put your finger in the bowl to encourage him.

He sleeps standing up.

We are mostly worried that he hasn't peed since 9:30am this morning and it is now 10: 30pm.

Is he sick??? Or just still adjusting??

I'm sorry that you are going through this with your new fella.I am assumming that he flew to you? it really doesn't say, wait i will go check to see if it does nope so I will assume since it is a long way from Texas to Chicago that you had him flown to you. That in ist's self is very truamatizing for a young pup and with the 2 breeds he is then that is even worse and your breeded should have told you this and should not of flown the dog!!I'm sure that your breeder knows that your little one has this sort of personality. That is if she is any kind of a good reputable breeder.
So if you don't have a crate for him it would be a goood idea to get one.He needs a place to go to feel safe.Leave food and water out for him right now. These little guys have a tendancy to get low blood sugar from not eating.Do what ever you need to do right now to feed him, baby food is good for them during these stages and they can be weaned off by mixing some in with their dry food.GO TO THE VET ASAP

Poor little guy! It isn't uncommon for dogs to shut down when they're stressed from the change to a new environment, and that sometimes includes not going potty for a day. Although this is probably stress related, not a health problem, he should go to the vet for a complete check up ASAP, just because that's always a good idea with a new dog so you can make sure he's in good health.

He should feel better in a day or so and start to be more confident and outgoing... if he doesn't, you should find a good trainer to help you to work through his adjustment problems.

Good luck!

Your dog sounds very nervous...In the situation you are describing, if he doesn't come out of it, he will suffer hypoglycemia:

HYPOGLYCEMIA
This is the scientific name for a condition where the sugar level suddenly drops. The first signs of this problem is usually staggering and falling over as if they are drunk. Or they can be observed lying on their side paddling with their front feet as though they are swimming. If these symptoms are observed you must act very quickly in order to save your puppy’s life. You have to get the sugar level up to bring the puppy out of this situation. And it must be done quickly. I suggest you have a tube of Nutrical on hand. You can get this at any pet food store. If you puppy does show any signs of low blood sugar or if it is not eating, give it some Nutrical. If the puppy’s is not willing to lick the Nutrical you can put some on your finger and rub it on the puppy’s gums.

Well, you should take a dog to the vet within 2 days of bringing it home anyway. So ask the vet when you take her there.
