New dog?
I want a new dog. I have been looking into the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, because I want a big dog that can swim and camp and such. However, I need a dog that doesn't shed, and/or is good for allergy sufferers. Any suggestions? I want a very 'campy' style dog. I can spend tons of time with grooming, training, and excersizing, and I live in a single home with a large yard. No kids. I can control a dominant dog. Not a Poodle, though, because I already have a Poodle. They are GREAT dogs, but I want some change, if you know what I mean. Nothing mixed with a Poodle, too. I really want a dog that looks kind of like a Lab or Chessie. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Well, if you want a real challenge, a curly coated retriever is a good bet. They can be either chocolate brown or black.

There are many different retriever type breeds.
Here are Retrievers -
Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
Chesapeake Bay Retriever
Golden Retriever
Curly Coated Retriever
Flat Coated Retriever
Labrador Retriever
Here are some other breeds that may be a good fit -
Irish Setter
Gordon Setter
Hovawart
Pointer
All dogs will shed.
Dog breeds such as Spaniels, Setters, and Retrievers would be good for you. The Dalmatian, Portuguese Water Dog, Newfoundland, Border Collie, Spanish Water Dog, and Brittany would be good.
Any dog in the Gundog Group would be good, too.
Wiki is a good site to check out, you can search about these breeds on there.

Soft coated Wheaten. You can shave them down if you want the coat to be short.
The curly coat chessie is cool, but very active.

:) Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier! :)
I have two of them. I love, love, love them. They are really entergentic and most of them like being outdoors, so that would be ideal for you.
PLEASE paw mail me with questions if you have any! Wheatens are faboulous dogs. Right now, Brutus has shaved hair (like Dieta mentioned) and Buckeye has his hair long. You can check out what they look like!

Almost all of the sporting dogs have very oily coats to help with them being waterproof and this oiliness will most likely cause problems with anyone with allergies. And... most all of the retrievers and pointers shed like CRAZY, especially labs and chessies.
