my puppy cries so much in his crate! what do i do?

sammy(my lab/golden retriever mix puppy, about 8 weeks old) cries when you put him in his crate, so i didn't put him in last night so the neighbors wouldnt get angry. and today i put him and tried to ignore him and praise him when he was quiet. but as soon as i left again he freaked out. and he whines whenever u leave him alone or dont pay attention to him for a second. please help! i don't want the neighbors to get angry or for us to get in trouble and have to give him away because of his excessive barking at night.

He's lonely, scared and doesn't want to be alone, all normal reactions with a new puppy who has just left his mommy and littermates.
Several things can help. I move the crate into my bedroom RIGHT beside my bed so I can reach down and dangle my fingers thru the bars and reassure him that I am still there for a few days until he is more comfortable.
I also give them something like a large stuffed toy to snuggle with and a ticking alarm clock will also help.
Feed him all his meals in his crate... this will help him learn that it is a good place to be.
Give him a kong stuffed with some of his dog food to help him settle down.
Make sure he is also taking his naps in his crate so he doesn't get used to sleeping in more than one place and expect to sleep where ever when night comes.
If you are persistant it shouldn't take more than a few days before he learns that the crate is a nice place. If u give in and remove him he will keep fussing all the more.
Good luck, he is wicked cute!

Make sure that his crate is comfortable. He should have a bed, blanket, and plenty of toys in there. Place his crate in your room where he can see you while you sleep. Also, make sure that you get up with him to take him out to potty because that could be why he is crying. If he's only 8 weeks old, then that means that his bladder can only hold up to 2 hours (1 hour per month old). Also, you have to remember that he is a baby still, and he is just getting used to being away from his mom and litter mates. Be patient and consistent with him, and let him know that his crate is a safe place to be. For example, place him in his crate, give him his food in there, and sit by him comforting him so he knows it's okay in there. I have also heard that putting a radio on quietly will help him feel like he's not alone. Another thing I heard of was wrapping a ticking clock in a blanket so he can't get to it and placing it in there to make him believe its his mom's heartbeat. Good luck!

when I first had my english bull dog I put a stuffed toy in with her so she think she had a litter mate with her she had it in with ther till she was full grown, you can also tap the crate like you tap someone on the shoulder I did this with all my dogs they all are crate trained I tap and then SHHHHHHH and this happens a few times she got the idea after a few nights.

I hope this helps
