My dog is sufferring from mainge, and I am desperate to find a cure.

Killer is a 2-year-old mixed-breed dog. He used to be healthy, but his sisters and brothers had mainge. He is losing hair quickly and his skin is drying up. He is biting his paws excessively, and he is slowly losing interest in playing. Is there any way I can cure this disease? Will the Vet give him a vaccination? Is there a special diet that can stop his hair loss? Please, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

There is medicine you can buy OTC but if your dog is suffering, go to the vet so you can start treatment right away. There is no vaccination.

AA's Ultra-Violet

Go to a Vet! It may or may not be mange, there are literally hundreds of things that could possibly be wrong. The vet should do a skin scraping along with a few other tests to determine the actual cause of your dogs skin issues. There is no miracle cure that can be bought over the counter, vaccinations are only for communicable disease (viruses), and special diet will only help if that is the cause of the problem.

You need to get him to the vet ASAP. Mange is very contagious. He has to be very uncomfortable.

You need to see a vet... BTW, humans can get mange from their dogs as well, so I wouldn't waste any time getting him to the vet.

Also be aware that there are two distinct types of mange. Demodectic mange is a mite that virtually all dogs and many humans have on their skin but problems never arise. If Demodex flares up and causes itching and hair loss, it's treatment is generally a smoother ride. Sarcoptic mange is a whole different story. This is the mite that can dangerously infect humans (giving us scabies) and can be much more difficult to treat. In either case, treatment is likely to be more successful if you make a trip to the vet so that you're treating the right type of mange as the course of treatment is different for demodectic vs. sarcoptic mange. Good luck!

I'm not sure how to cure the disease, but I can help with the dry skin and paws. Check out www.mypetfection.com. They sell 100% Organic and Non Toxic pet products. Ones that will work well for you are the Deodorizer/Allergy Spray and Hot Spots/Wound Spray... both of these will help with the itchiness and red skin associated with the dry skin. They will both help reduce inflammation and promote skin cell regeneration. Puppy Suds is their shampoo (if you bathe him yourself) and it will also help with dry skin and soothe any redness. The last to check out is Paw Cream.... you can use this on his paws and on any other scratch, rash, red area. It works extremely well on healing paw pads and skin and will reduce any inflammation. All of these will provide anti-bacterial properties too! Hope this helps, good luck!
