My dog is not getting along with my roommates dogs. HELP!!

I have recently moved with my 2 1/2 year old lab mix. She has never had a problem before with dogs and she normally loves to play. I moved into a home with a friend who has a 6 year old Male dog and a 4 month old female puppy. She barks and growls at the puppy and she is scared of the male dog because he is always trying to mount her. My dog and the male dog are fixed and my roommate says that he never has done that before. Im not sure of what to do to have the dogs get on good terms. Any ideas are welcome please!!! Thank you!

You can try keeping them in a creat when your not there so you don't have to worry about them fighting when you re not there. Maybe you can talk with a trainer that can help you untill then I would make sure they stay apart and when they are together make sure they are on a leash so if a fight breaks out you can get control of it.

One great way is to get out this week end with your roomate with the dogs on leash.
Walk them leisurely as much as you can.
Plan on a camping trip or something fun to do with them.
That way they are being somewhere fun and relaxing as they slowly get to know each other.
Things could be rough just keeping your dog in close quarters with two strange dogs.
Take some yummies with you on your walks also for the dogs.
Strolls are great way to relax and enjoy the outside with your dogs.
Also sit outside in the yard with them on leash, and just let them look/sniff each other as you visit.
Have you roomate crack down on the humping, that is considered rude to some dogs.
My dog hates that.

Hi there!

First of all, mounting can have a lot of different meanings, from "Let's play!" to "Calm down!" to "I'm the boss here." It's hard to answer this without observing the behavior of all three dogs. The 6-year-old may have already been fed up with such a young puppy around, and having your dog arrive was the last straw. Or, your Lab might be "teasing" him or sending out too much hyper energy, which will make him want to calm her down by mounting her. Or, he might just need more training and canine manners!

Regardless, I agree with Dieta that the dogs should be given lots of opportunities to interact and get to know each other on "neutral territory" like a walk around the neighborhood, running off-leash at a dog park or dog beach, or playing in a friend's back yard. Off-leash is best to keep them calm and polite - on-leash can cause pulling and fear-aggression.

Definitely don't leave them together without supervision. Crates work great, as do baby gates and X-pens. Good luck!
