My dog has circular dry skin lesions all over torso, vet doesn't know what it is!
Since November 2011 my dog has had circular spots of very dry, peely, and itchy skin on his body. Originally I assumed they were healing flea bites (we had a nasty bout of them in October, but they were gone by Halloween) but after they worsened I took him to the vet in December. My vet thought he had ringworm and put him on prescription Fluconazole and advised I apply OTC fungal cream daily. After 2.5 weeks, the lesions did not improve and actually spread over more of his torso. The vet was stumped as he assumed a fungal infection was obvious. After we made sure the anti-fungal was out of his system, the vet did a full blood panel. It came back today 100% normal. The vet says he has never seen anything like this and plans to do a medicated bath on Friday.
Things it is NOT:
Ringworm or other fungal infection
Thyroid or anything else that would show in blood work
Does anyone know what this may be? If you can tell me how to post photos of it, I will do that as well.
Thank you!

This happened to Libby this spring. They turned out to be an allergic reaction, causing a bacterial infection that would have turned into hot spots if not for medicated shampoo and a topical salicylic acid solution. Turns out my dog is allergic to chicken. Who knew?

You might find a vet who can run a skin allergy test if yours does not. This could tell you a lot if she is in fact allergic to something. In the meantime, a wonderful product I recommend using is PETfection Deodorizer/Allergy or Hot Spots/Wound Spray. Both are 100% Organic and Non-Toxic. They have been amazing at healing up weird spots on my dogs. They will both help stop itching, any redness, and help block out infection. I hope this helps; best of luck!
