CrystalWater's Petey ( Petey )

My dog beens showing signs of Cushings....recently fever and shaking, swollen belly..........

the little guy has rock hard belly, hunger, thirst and the other day shaking from a fever very ill,.2 months ago I had him at the vet for almost for the same symptoms minus the fever and shivering, they suspected Cushings his blood was tested and all was fine except a bit of high white blood cell count ,they suspected a small infection, but didn't suggest anything else except expensive Cushings tests. I took him home kept an eye on him...he was fine except the hard belly and drinking lots of water.2 months later, I rushed him to the vet this Thursday, they took exrays and found he had an enlarged liver, they did blood tests and everything was fine except finding "Stimulated Lymphosites??an infec.they said they will call me tuesday to discuss what to do. Well my little guy is perking up and not shivering anymore, his previous owner called and told me her previous dog had the same thing, from eating cat poop w/clumping litter on it! Anyone else have this problem? Can it cause an infection

WOW! did you ever see that "clumping litter" when it gets really wet? I put a litter pan outside (in a fenced area where my dogs couldn't get it) and I forgot it. It rained. I could not believe the transformation of the stuff. I don't know if it can cause an "infection" but I sure know if an animal ate it it could really swell up it's innards. You are lucky. Just for the heck of it put some of that litter in a bowl and add water...I'll bet if you put a few drops of amonia in the the effect would be even more dramatic. I'd keep that litter pan somewhere where my dog couldn't get it. it is just a bad idea to eat poop, with or without kitty litter.
Just in case, here is site about Cushings Disease in dogs, in case you haven't already seen it.
