My best friend neglects her dogs...should I call animal control?

My best friend has two dogs, which live outside with no shelter. I had to buy them a water dish in the summer because they were getting sick from drinking out from the pond in their small yard. One older dog fencefights with my dog, and is very sick with knee dysplasia and the younger dog, a 5 month old pup, will not stop barking. He is so could now in this weather because he has such thin fur. The only time these dogs get attention is either a "Shut up!" or a "Stop it!", and feeding time.

I feel so bad for these dogs. They live a horrible life. My best friend is NOT financially challenged, because he/she goes on pratically monthly cruises. So there is no reason to not take care of the dogs properly. Should I call animal control to seize the dogs, and lose my friendship but save the dogs? How should I do it? Please help!

If I were you, I'd have a heart to heart talk with your friend, first.

Tell her that you know she loves the dogs, but you have noticed some things that really bother you, such as the lack of clean water, which dogs should have access to at all times.

Tell her that you feel very sorry for the dogs and that they need more attention than she's giving them.

Perhaps give her a couple of good basic dog care manuals.

If there's no improvement, I'd call the authorities. Basically, she will probably know it is you whether you talk to her first or not, or whether you do an anonymous call or not.

I think it is very good of you to put the well-being of these dogs potentially ahead of your friendship.

On the other hand, frankly, she doesn't really sound like a wonderful person to be around if she can neglect her animals like that.

If you conatct animal control, they will investigate and take action if they see neglect.

I deff. think you should call animal control. Also if you call, usually they wont tell the owner who called and if you keep your cool she wont know you called either. You can probably even tell animal control that you want to be left annonamace. HELP THE DOGGIES!

he/shes right... animal control wont tell who calld.. just keep it cool. shell never no...

its better than just letting those poor dogs suffer. specially the puppy. it hasnt got to live on this world very long...

i think you should call animal control because if they continue to live like that they could die. i also live outside but i at least have food water and shelter at all times

You can try to talk to your friend about your concerns if you think that would help. If not, absolutely call and make a complaint. You are the only voice for those dogs and they deserve so much better. I think saving an animal from neglect and abuse is much more important than saving a friendship with a human.

You asked what you should do. I guess my question to you is, what do you feel is more important? The lives of two innocent dogs who didn't ask to be in the position they're in, or the friendship with someone who's so obviously self-absorbed and self-obsessed she cannot bother to take care of others in her life?

To me, this would be a very easy choice. "Show me a man's dog and I show you what manner of man his owner is." I think this speaks volumes. I also think that anyone who treats their pets like this is not a good person and is not deserving of your friendship.

These dogs never asked to be neglected or to be abused. And yes, they are being abused if there's no shelter, no health care, no anything.

Call animal control and let them deal with it. Chances are, they probably will not take the dogs the first time they come out. But they will fine her for the consistent barking and not caring for her dogs. Maybe they will take them and get them good homes eventually.

Yes do it right now. No dog deserves to live with some-one that does not love and protect them as they promise they would!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
