My 4-yr-old resident dog, a Lakeland terrier, suddenly started being intolerant our new wire fox puppy. Why?

For the first month, he would lay on his back and let climb on him and bite his ears and neck, and play "chase." Overnight, his attitude changed. For the last 2 days, he snarls at her, makes as if to bite her when she goes for the water dish when he's drinking, and refuses to play with her. What gives?
