My 28mo. old pom died in 24 hrs. of encephalitis. anyone heard of that?

She started salivating, and when we took her to the couch to have a look at her closer, her ears were twitching out of sync. The saliva was coming from the front of her closed mouth; and she would not open her mouth w/ or w/out help. She has been to the vet in the last mo. for update shot and test for heartworm (routine yearly). She was at the emergency vet at nite and local vet in the day. Within 20 hrs. she was gone.

It is rare and comes from a mosquito bite. It affects the brain and causes death... occasionally in people too. There is nothing your vet could have done. If you live in a very buggy area, spray bug spray on yourself and the leash before walking your dog, and you can buy one of those citronella clips for the walk. ^_^
