Coughing blood every 3-4 days. His breathing begins to wheeze when he does any exercise and sometimes after he barks. He also becomes distressed and cries. When he is positioned so that he is curled up to go to sleep, he often begins to gasp or wheeze and he sounds like a veteran chain-smoker. This occurs every 1-2 hours when he is lying down and he gasps about 3-5 times. Apart from this, his breathing seems very normal.
He lost his appetite and, as a result, lost weight. He is currently 42 kilos and his ribcage is clearly visible. Previously, his ribcage was barely visible.
I took him to the vet twice. His heart is not under pressure and is beating normally. On the first occasion he was barely able to stand and couldn't even step onto the 9 inch step into the garage. The vet said that it could be an infection on his heart and prescribed a 1 week course of tablet steroids (1.5 tabs twice a day), as well as giving him 2 injections.
Second visit got scope and xray. Blood in lungs.

I think I would look for another vet to see what they think. I do not think the first vet is giving you enough information. Good luck.

Please post this on the health forum on this site. There are more people there to help. What was in the injection? Did he say it was pneumonia? Or an abscess? The vet should explain what they are treating? Sounds like you might need a new vet. Please keep us posted. Good Luck with him. :)
