Loose Stool on and off

my dog has always had issues with loose stool. About month or two ago we switched her to grain free food and it hasn't helped.
Her demeanor is fine, she has plenty of energy and is a happy pup.
I've had 5 dogs before this and have never had this issue with them.
She had worms when she was a puppy but she got rid of them and the vets haven't seen anything since.
We have added pumpkin to her food in the past which has helped, but I really don't want to be adding stuff to her food for the rest of her life.
We have never really fed her a lot of human food.. so I don't think thats it.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do, any advice?

Maybe her gut flora (beneficial bacteria) are out of balance- oral antibiotics can do this. Try a probiotic supplement.

A low-residue (high-calorie, low fiber) type diet might help too. Not all grain-free foods are equal. Some are meat-based and high in digestible protein, some just replace the grains with other carb sources like peas and potatoes and are nutritionally identical to grain-based foods.

Also, is she in good weight? Overfeeding can cause loose stools (in which case she'd be fat) and so can insufficient digestive enzymes (in which case she'd be skinny because she isn't digesting her food.) You can try an enzyme supplement to see if the latter is the problem.

When it comes down to it, which would you prefer: lifetime of supplementing her diet, or a lifetime of runny poop?

I second the pro-biotics. My guy also has had issues. I sprinkle his food with enzymes & probiotics & let it incubate for awhile. It is well worth the extra effort.
