Is my doggie a husky? We adopted her over the summer and she is about 2-3 years old. She looks like a husky to me - but she's quite small (just under 40lbs), and has the 'wooly' coat. I know she is definitely PART husky. Just curious about whether or not she is full husky. To be honest I am kind of hoping she isn't full bred because I'm worried about the hip dysplasia that comes with full blooded huskies =( Here are some pictures of her! https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/306805_10152301198765424_194101031_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/530943_10152301198880424_718901700_n.jpg https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/302817_10152301199195424_751285497_n.jpg Thanks!

I'm no husky expert, but I could see her being either pure husky or a mix... maybe someone more knowledgeable about that can comment.

HOWEVER, even if she's a pure bred that's no guarantee she'll get hip dysplasia. Many of the medium and especially larger breeds are prone to having bad hips, but there's no breed that *always* has bad hips, and being a mix is certainly no guarantee she *won't* have bad hips.

It basically comes down to bad luck, although if you know the lineage of the dog you can sometimes find out if the line is prone to bad hips. If it's a major concern for you, you can have her hips x-rayed and the vet can tell you with good certainty if you can expect hip problems. Otherwise, just keep an eye on her and see if she ever seems sore or bothered by her hips.

She could be either or, it really is hard to say for sure without having the papers to say it. Huskies come in many different looks and sizes, but weather she is purebred or not you have a very beautiful dog and as the other poster said, hip displacia can be in almost every large breed dog there is, if she is purebred Husky that doesn't mean she will have a hip problem for sure, it is just unfortunate that some large breed dogs get it, however some dont.
Good Luck

Husky for sure. She's probably purebred, but she could be a mix. Mine is also a husky and doesn't have dysplasia. If she has gait problems when running,or seems sore or lame from physical activity, she should have hip xrays.
