Intra-scrotal swelling.... When to be concerned...?
My 9yr old male was neutered on 11/9. His stitches look good and he is acting normal, eating, drinking, no signs of pain. BUT his scrotum is very swollen and looks as though it has blood inside. From what I've read on the internet, this is not uncommon when neutering old males, but when should I be concerned enough to return to the vet?

Although mine is not old, he too had significant swelling. The vet said he was "exceptionally well endowed" which could lead to extra swelling. She recommended an ice pack, wrapped in a towel to help reduce the swelling. Yeah, right, try to get a big dog (or any size) to keep a cold pack on their privates. lol I did manage to get one there a few times. His swelling took about 4-5 days to go down & by the time his stiches were out it had gone down even more, but he was still a bit swollen for a week-ish after that. Monitor him, & don't hesitate to call your vet if you suspect something is not quite right.
