I'm getting an older dog. I am afraid we willnot have it long. What should be the right age?

I am finally able to get a new dog! But I have suggestions to get an older dog. I have to get an older dog but what would be the right age. We are going to get a dachsund at the best guess. How long do they live? I need help! ):

I had a daschund when I was younger. He lived to be 16. My sister has one who is 11 now and she just lost one who was 15.

If you give your dog the right care and the right diet, she will live for a long time. If you feed your dog Kibbles 'N Bits (for example) your dog is not going to live as long because she is not eating right.

Dachshunds live to be around 12-16 years old

You will have lots of time with your new dog but, we all know when the time comes it seems to come to soon. Just be sure to spend quality time with your new dog and keep his health in check with regular vet check ups and a premium food. Mom works for Nutro and recommends checking out Ultra.

If you have any questions feel free to message me! :) Good luck finding a new dog to add to your family!

Snickers

The reason for choosing an older dog (as in NOT a puppy) is consideration for the dogs you have now.
Most dogs will find a puppy annoying and won't want much to do with it.

Snickers was a 2 year old when we got him, Candy was 6. It was love from the start and they were wonderful companions for 4 years.

Snickers was not thrilled with Pepper when she arrived. She still is more energetic than he is. While they are part of the family and like having each other around - they are not pals and don't play much together.

Bring your dogs with you and look for a perfect match in a dog that is 1 to 3 years old.

Dieta

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dachshund
read on them.
also take your dogs to meet and greet before you bring the dog back. If it doesn't go well try a couple more times, then realize if they don't accept each other that it isn't a good match.
Last year I think one was entered into Guiness at 22 yrs old then she passed away later.

There is nothing wrong wit getting an older dog. I think it is great you are looking at getting one. Most dogs would live to be around 12 years old. But many do live longer. I have taken in mnay dogs after the age of 5. It may take them a bit longer to adjust to you then a puppy. But most are better trained and it is less of a headache to start with. Best of luck to you whatever you decide.
