Nothing is normal for a mix breed. But I have seen some with long tails and some with short. Depends if they inherited the chi tail or the yorkie tail. Yours probably got the yorkie tail.

Whomever the "breeder" was could have had the puppy's tail docked, or they could have docked it themselves. Next time you're at the vet's office, you can ask if they think the tail was docked one way or the other, or if it was naturally that way. I rescued Holly from the pound at 3 - 4 months of age, and her tail was docked previously. According to the vet, it seemed to have been done professionally.

Both Chihuahuas and Yorkies naturaly have long tails. Yorkies are traditionaly docked, so unless you live in a country where docking is illegal you've probably never seen one with a natural tail. Your pup was docked by the breeder or thier vet. Docking is done at 1-5 days of age before the nerves of the tail have fully developed. Some pups do react to the small amount of pain, but they soon forget once they're back with the litter. Most pups react more from being away from the litter and mum than having thier tails done.
