I have a very mild mannered, even tempered pit that grunts/growls if i stop petting and rest my hand on top of him HELP!

He has no aggressive behavior whatsoever he is very well trained.

Hi there. I wonder if the growling is not so much objection to you resting your hand on his head as objection to you stopping the petting? How are you dealing with this at the moment? It could be that the growling is a dog 'command' to continue petting. The most obvious behavioural answer would be to defy this command by *not* returning to petting (and by *not* ceasing to rest your hand on him) until the growling stops. This may well escalate the behaviour at first but as your dog is well-trained and shows no aggression it should subside relatively quickly.
