You can check. If you can't afford a vet, at least call and ask how much meds would be. Sometimes they're cheaper than you think. Ask your vet if pet stores carry that, and if they even work, because if they did they might not work. A good store like Petsmart would probably have some though.

Most Petstores have cheaper vet clinics, you can go there an ask how much medications would be, and maybe they'll even be over the counter.

I wouldn't give anything for pain with a dog that has a urinary tract infection without consulting a vet. Some medications are processed by the kidneys and would thus be more detrimental to his/her health. At least call your vet to see if there's anything you can do, but my guess is they won't offer any advice without first seeing your pet.

How do you know your dog has a UTI? Unless diagnosed by a veterinarian, you should not assume that it is a UTI, and treating it with over the counter medications may not be in the dogs best interest.

If your dog has an infection, it will need more that pain medication - a course of antibiotics will be necessary to clear the infection, and they can only be perscribed by a vet. An untreated infection can cause a lot of serious issues if not treated, just like in humans.

If you do not have the money to pay up front for a vet visit, consider calling around and asking for a payment plan with a vet in your area, or apply for care credit so you can get your dog's condition properly diagnosed.Since you are a guest of Dogster and we cannot know your location, it is difficult to provide further assistance of possible help in your area.

Bottom line is your dog needs to see the vet.

You could save the office visit price and drop off a sample for testing. Once it is checked they should let you get the meds without a visit. If it is a UTI, you need to get antibiotics ASAP!!!!

Gabi

Austin has multiple non profit dog clinics in our city. It is very inexpensive. YOu may want to check out your area.

How do you know it is a UTI? What are the symptoms?

You need to take her to the vet to verify infection-- there's lots of other things it can be. Many vet offices hold checks-- like you pay some now & write them extra checks for the balance, depositing them once a week or whatever. Good luck!
