How to teach my dog to fetch?
I've been teaching my dog Pebbles for a while to fetch.
I throw the ball, she runs at it, touches it with her nose and runs back to me(without the ball), sniffing my pockets(full of treats). I am telling fetch and she looks at me, as if to say ''I don't get it!''.
What can I do to teach her fetch?

Try baby steps.
Try this on a leash:
1. Get her to take it in her mouth - reward
2. Drop it, have her pick it up - reward
3. place it a few feet away, have her pick it up, come to you (reel her in if needed)- reward
4. now try tossing it, have her pick it up, return with ball, reward!
If she gets stuck, back up a step and practice more til she gets it.

you can also leash her and kick the ball away from her to drive her to want it.
after the keep away then let her lunge to get it.
as soon as her mouth touches it or even her nose, immediately praise her like a huge party is about to start.
Not all dogs have ball drive or the need to bring it back to you.
The best way to play fetch is with (2) balls each time. It builds drive and breaks the taking it away we do. The dog wants to win every time this is the best way to teach fetch.
Then be careful not to over do it, stop when the dog is at the peak of her game. It leaves them wanting more next time.
You might have to go as far as holeing a tennis ball attach clothes line to it. and run about dragging it, same thing, she noses it or touches it you praise her. I had to do that once with a dog who had no ball drive.
