How to stop puppy peeing on the side of the newspaper?

I try to take him out regularly but with things going on in the house, I sometimes leave him to pee on the paper, which he generally does well, except he always pees and sometimes poops too on the side of the newspaper. No matter what amount of newspaper I put down, always on the side. I'm sure he knows that the newspaper is his place, but having to constantly clean up after he pees on the side... It's getting tiresome, so if there's anything I can do about it...

I don't think paper training is a good idea at all, other than for tiny toy breeds who take longer to housebreak simply for physical reasons. There is no reason you can't train him to signal when he needs to go, and you take him outside. Being too busy is no excuse, if that's the case, why did you get a puppy?

Paper training confuses dogs and makes it harder to learn that bodily functions are supposed to take place outside. Take the paper away and go out with him every hour, and praise him and treat him for peeing/pooping outside so he gets the message. He will become better at "holding it" if the paper is gone and he doesn't have an indoor toilet anymore.

Halo

I agree, paper training is for tiny dogs living in high rises. Busy is no excuse unless you actually work form home, in which case, build an outdoor kennel and provide shelter and toys out there during work hours.

If you are too busy to train a puppy, why did you get one?

Dieta

it might be the sound the paper is generating. sometimes, that will spook a puppy. Have you tried using the puppy pads in the store?
You could also shred the paper in the shredder and place it all over a big sheet of cardboard.
The cardboard will help soak thru-s
