That really depends on the individual dog.

Some working line dogs need A LOT of exercise - a couple of walks and playing ball for a bit won't cut it. Others are more laid back and don't need anywhere near that amount of exercise. So the question is, how much exercise does YOUR German Shepherd need?

Good indicators that you need to "up" the exercise are pacing or whining in the house, being destructive, inappropriate or nuisance behaviors (chewing on things, tearing up the crate, chasing the cat, etc.), and the like.

As a good start, two leashed walks of 30 to 45 minutes a day, 5 to 10 minutes training here and there everyday, and about a half hour playing serious fetch in the yard would be a good amount of exercise.

DO avoid forced exercise (leashed running or bicycling) until she's at least 16 to 18 months old, to keep it easy on her joints. And no high and repetitive jumping until she's about that age, either.

Lots! At only 7 months, nothing more than letting the dog run free on her own, lots of playtime, and daily walks. Her growth plates haven't settled yet, so it isn't recommended to do anything other than those things with her until this happens - usually around a year and a half. She does need daily exercise though - they are herding dogs so they need to have lots of activities that stimulate their brain. Best of luck with your GSD.
