I don't think there is an exact time because it does vary depending on the individual and it is a gradual process. This is much like a newborn child learning how to walk. Newborn pups open their eyes at about 14 days of age. Even though their eyes are open at this point their vision is still very blurry. As the vision improves the pup will move around more. At first they won't go very far on their feet and will be wobbly and fall over. Gradually they get on their feet more and become better at it. I found that by about 5 weeks of age my Miniature Schnauzer puppies were fairly sturdy on their feet. This is the time that I started to feed them solid food because they could eat without falling head first into their dish. :)

usually at 2-3 weeks of age the pups will start to walk. Once the eyes open it is a good indicator, they will begin trying at that point.
