Way to long when there is blood!!!!They may be in heat for up to 3 weeks-they can have discharge for that long.Depends on the dog.I have known dogs to stay in heat or I should say have discharge for up to 5 weeks. The dog should be spayed after her heat cycle is done(mark it on your calender)keep track of everything from the time she came into heat and the day you notice that she is out. You can take a piece of toilet paper and check by wiping her vulva close to 3 weeks to see if she has discharge.the day you don't get any write it on the calender. Then count 3 months after that&have her spayed between 3-6 months after she goes out of heat and before her next one. There have been alot of studies done on female dogs that are allowed to go into heat before spaying and females that are spayed during their heat&within 3 months of their heat.It is known that they are 75% maor likely to have behavior issues if the above has happened.I have seen this to be true with some rescues I studied.

HEAT IS NOT BREED-SPECIFIC. IT IS GENERALLY THE SAME FOR ALL DOGS, THE EXCEPTIONS BEING MORE TO DO WITH AN INDIVIDUAL DOG THAN AN INDIVIDUAL BREED.
