How can you tell if you dog is aging??

Milo looks as if he is staring to slow down a little. When it is hot outside all he does is sleep in the shade. He looks thrisy but won't drink out of his bowl. He likes it when I do it for him, same for when he is inside too. Then he tottaly gets a burst of energy. I know that he is about 3 years old and that some ratties live up to the possiable age of 15 or soemting close to that. Please p-mail me if you have any more questions! Also please note he does not look like he has any sickness that is phyiscal, or has athrites. Help!! Thanks any help will be appericated!

Thanks, Milo :)

It sounds like he's just getting overheated. When dogs get overheated, like when I bring my dog in from a long walk in the heat that really should have been a shorter walk, she will collapse for awhile before taking water. This can be very serious; my mom's friend had a Great Dane who died of heat exhaustion. But it sounds like your dog is just slowing down because of the hot weather, which is perfectly normal. Just give him shade and plenty of water (and maybe some ice cubes) and don't ask him to exert himself.
