How can I turn an outside dog back to an indoor one? Rescuing a 10 month old beagle who has been kept outdoors for last

We will be trying to crate train him since the previous owners have not even tried to potty train him. Is this possible or are we getting in over our heads?? Help!!

It's definitely possible. Tucker was an outside dog prior to being rescued. He was crate trained first and was taken outside often. You'd be surprised how fast he'll learn. Make sure you take him out when he wakes up, after he eats, after play time and before bed. Limit water after a certain time. That time will depend on how late you plan to stay up. If you catch him relieving himself in the house, take him outside right away.

If a dog has been living where it could keep its living space clean, it should quickly catch on. The important part will be teaching it that if it goes to the door, you will let it out. At first, take it out if it even gets near the door. It will be much more difficult if the dog was forced to live in its filth. You will need to learn to read the dog and learn its schedule, and when it needs to go out. Keep it in sight, closing doors and setting up gates. Some people even leash the dog to themselves. I have used a tie down at my computer desk.

One of the most important things is to lavish praise on it when it does anything outside.
