How can I stop my two Labradors from destroying my lawn?

My two Labradors love to play, but their paws tear up my grass and dirt when they stop short and change direction. The lawn looks terrible.

I want to confine them to a small portion in the back where they can play. I already consulted an invisible fence expert, and they said logistically it wouldn't work. I also thought of installing a garden fence, but guess what- one of the dogs can easily jump a 4 foot fence. Maybe even a 5.

I am so upset.

Sadly this is one thing about dogs you just can't change. You are lucky that they aren't physically digging your lawn, but stopping short is hard to change.
Making sure their claws are always cut may help a little bit, but otherwise I don't think we can help you there.

♥ DEOGIE ♥

The day we adopted Deogie is the day we said goodbye to our beautiful lawn and gardens. Watching a dog play gives me more joy than any lush lawn ever could.
Enjoy the spirit, energy and the health of your dogs, never sweat the small things in life like grass.
Have a good one.

Ty

I have my back yard for the dogs to run and play in and the grass gets torn up. My front yard that most people see is kept nice and the dogs do not play there. Maybe you could do this.

I have been a Vet Tech for 3 years and My son has worked as a manager in 2 major pet stores. We both have had similar solutions to the digging issues and bitting gnawing..basically tearing up things and dealing in different areas indoor and outdoor. Get a 16 oz spray bottle. Pour Cayenne pepper to just cover the bottom about an 1/8 of an inch or so. Shake the bottle and spray to the areas you don't want them to touch, bite, gnaw, dig, etc. Now specifically for digging...dig an 4 inch crack along the fench or yard area and spray in the crack/area heavily and then recover with the same dirt. When they dig they will dig up the scent. This method is safe and will not do any harm other than making them sneeze and back away. Mission accomplished. We have had many farmers and local city owners do this and have been successful. Good Luck.
