Flea and tick prevention
Does using a flea and tick shampoo prevent fleas and ticks even for a few days after the bath? I am wondering because I live in an area that has no flea and tick problems but I like to go camping. The monthly drops are pretty expensive to buy for a few weekends of camping, but if the shampoo will protect him for a few days that would be perfect! Any other tips for flea and tick prevention just during camping trips?

I gave up on Frontline last year. It never stopped the ticks but did kill the flea or made them unable to multiply. yes, so expensive.
I bought some lemon grass oil. so far it has helped with fleas, seen none, but we have had a few ticks. I think we'll just pick them off as we see them, I also put the lemongrass in some water and I sprayed my carpet downstairs.
I just put the lemongrass on straight on the same part of the body the frontline would go on the shoulders on the skin ;)
I feel better not using poisonous chemicals.
you can use the lemongrass on yourself in the water I add several drops. if you put it directly on your skin it will stain yellow. watch the clothes too.

Flea shampoo leaves no residue on the dog to keep additional fleas off, it only kills those on the dog already.
We use advantix just prior to our camping trips...it also repels mosquitoes and deer flies as well as ticks and fleas. To me, the price is still way cheaper than having to treat for lymes disease or other tick borne diseases and/or to have to treat my other dogs and my whole house if I bring in a flea from camping.

A great spray to use for camping is PETfection Bug Spray. It is 100% Organic and Non Toxic. It doesn't contain any chemicals and works great at keeping the bugs away and healing any previous bites he may already have. It smells good too (I even use it on myself)! I love it. You can check it out at www.mypetfection.com for more info. Hope this helps!
